Q:Spartpress: How do I use Categories and Tags
Spartpress has a powerful feature which allows you to categorise your posts and add keyword tags to them. This improves the SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) of your content but it also importantly makes it easier for your website visitors to navigate between the posts.
Categories
Think of a categories as top level folders into which you organise your posts. So for example we've got one for each of the main areas of our business: Email Marketing; Online Sales; SEO etc. These categories are pretty large grained.
Tags
When you want to be more fine-grained then you use tags. You can see the categories and tags for the article in the editor window in the image (2) on the right hand side. Here's some important rules about tags:
- Be consistent with your spelling and use of case for example "SEO" is not the same as "S.E.O"
- Using the same tags on different posts will connect them
- Use meaningful keywords
Setting up your categories
The first time you want to use categories you'll have to set them up. To do this log into your account. Then click on "Content" followed by "Spartpress". At the top you will see the link to "Manage Categories" shown in the image (1). Follow that link and it's easy to create categories. Keep the names short and simple though.
How it all works
As you categorise your posts (you can go back and do your older posts too!) and as you add tags to them you'll see that at the bottom of each post (3) the tags and categories are listed and linked. When someone clicks on one of the tags then all the other posts which share the same tag will be shown. The same happens for categories.
